Social media is not about followers, likes, or even comments.

The success of your social media strategy should be measured by the opportunities it creates outside of the platform. 

So, I'm giving you an assignment.

Pick the social channel you are most comfortable with, Linkedin, Instagram, Facebook, etc.

Select 25 accounts that could potentially be a future client or customer.

Send each one a direct message giving them a compliment about something that you specifically appreciate or asking a question about them (e.g. content, product, lifestyle, etc.) DO NOT TRY SELLING them anything!

The goal of this exercise is to start a real conversation.

Reach out to 25 new accounts every week until you hit 100.

Rinse, repeat.

This is how I have directly connected with decision makers in Fortune 500 companies.
